The Sacred Heart is a medieval symbol of Christs sacrifice, particularly within the Roman Catholic Church. The sacred heart signifies the redeeming love of God as the source of illumination and happiness, hence the flames, and the thorns representing the Crown of Thorns that Christ wore on the Cross. Usually a sacred heart does not have the wings on it. Wings have many different meanings to different people. Usually the most common one I have seen is a symbol of freedom. A heart with wings could be seen to symbolize a free spirit or heart, freedom from love, or even the freeing feeling of being with someone of love.
